With a distinctive style inspired by British fashion and modern culture, South East London born Joel Culpepper (Pronounced KUHL-PEPPER) has been described as 'the UK's answer to Andre 3000 and Frank Ocean'- with recent comparisons being made to Anderson .Paak and Childish Gambino.

In June 2014, Joel was BBC Introducing artist of the week and later invited to perform on the BBC Introducing stage at Bestival. In May 2015, Joel joined Paloma Faith on her Australian tour as the main support act. Performing in packed venues, including the iconic Sydney Opera House, Joel gained new fans and praise from the Australian media for his notable performances.

Plenty of similar talents have gone before and failed, but Culpepper, possessing perhaps the best British male voice since Omar – no lie – deserves to sell albums. – The Brag magazine (Australia)

Joel followed up the success of his debut EP, ‘Skydive’, with the release of his second EP,Tortoise’ in January 2017. It features production by Grammy award winning producer Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini, James Bay); Morgan Nicholls (Gorillaz, Muse) and Rich De Rosa (Rita Ora, Example); American producer Roy Davis Jr (Mary J Blige, Seal); Swindle (Kojey Radical, Little Dragon); Kay Young (produced B.I.G on Skydive); Jools Holland’s Musical Director Phil Veacock, scored and arranged strings and horns. Tortoise creatively represents another milestone in Joel Culpepper’s growing music career. In June 2017, the second single ‘Afraid to be King’ was BBC Radio 6 record of the week. Joel was also invited by respected DJ, Gilles Peterson to perform on his Radio 6 show. Joel continues to generate fresh interest and has also received support from other DJs such as, Lauren Laverne, Annie Mac, Chris Hawkins, Hew Stephens, Trevor Nelson, Maryanne Hobbs, DJ Target, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth, Jamie East and Steve Lamacq.

This year Joel has also been busy in the studio with an impressive line-up of producers-
long-time collaborator Swindle (producer behind hit song, ‘Woman’), Guy Chambers, Henry Wu, FKJ and Redinho.

Joel is currently working on his debut album, due for release in 2019. The first single, ‘Caroline No’ Featuring Kojey Radical, produced by Swindle is out now.
